Add nature to your treatment plan with the PaRx program

  • On February 11, 2025

PaRx is Canada’s first national nature prescription program, allowing licensed healthcare professionals such as nurses, physicians, and physiotherapists to easily prescribe nature as part of treatment. This innovative, evidence-based initiative acknowledges the power of the natural environment in promoting physical and mental well-being. With a focus on integrating nature into healthcare practices, PaRx empowers practitioners to recommend outdoor activities, such as hiking, walking in parks, or spending time in green spaces, to support their patients’ health.

The benefits of nature are well-documented, with research showing that spending time outdoors can significantly improve health. For example, exposure to nature has been shown to lower stress hormones, fostering a sense of calm and relaxation. Nature also boosts cognitive functions, enhancing memory, creativity, and concentration. Furthermore, regular engagement with natural settings has been linked to a decrease in the risk of heart disease and overall improvements in psychological well-being. By prescribing nature, healthcare providers can offer a holistic and accessible treatment option, fostering healthier lives and stronger connections to the environment.
