It is a great honour to serve as Director of the Canadian Open Parkinson Network (C-OPN), alongside Co-Director Dr. Edward Fon. As movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease become increasingly common in Canada and around the world, our mission has never been more critical. Currently, over 110,000 Canadians are living with Parkinson’s disease with approximately 6,600 new cases diagnosed each year.
C-OPN is a proudly Canadian initiative that brings together researchers, clinicians, trainees, and people living with Parkinson’s to advance discovery and improve care. By collecting and sharing clinical, epidemiological, genetic, and biosample data from sites across the country, we offer one of the most comprehensive and accessible Parkinson’s research platforms in Canada.
This rich data resource is available to qualified Canadian and international investigators, supporting rapid collaboration and large-scale research not possible at individual centers. C-OPN is helping Canada lead in neuroscience, Open Science, and the use of artificial intelligence in health research.
Together, through this shared effort, we will deepen our understanding of Parkinson’s disease and accelerate the search for better treatments. We invite you to connect with C-OPN and be part of this important work.”
